I wanted to replace one of two ceiling lights to a ceiling fan.
On the light switch side, there are four wires, two red(+) and two white(-).
One of the red wire is live and in the light switch socket its cross over to the other red wire.
So each switch control one light.
The fan is control by a speed regulator from 0-5. 0 = stop, 5 = fastest speed. It has two wires.
When I connect these two wires to the light switch which I replaced, the following happens.

1) The other ceiling light comes on when I switched it on. - no problem

2)When I switched on the other switch, the fan spin at a fast speed even though the setting on the regulator is "0". Normally it should not move until I change it to 1 or 2 ---- up to 5.

I connect one wire from fan regulator box to the red wire and the other wire to the white wire.

Whats wrong??

Maybe the fan is faulty ;)

Are you from the UK?

Seems odd you having "white" wires in your switch etc.

The old colours are red/yellow/blue

Red yellow and blue was the replacement for red white and blue
