Hi guys

Going in on Friday to upgrade a main earthing conductor (don't know what it is at the moment) to a 16mm.

My question is, after I do a Ze/ PFC/ Bonding continuity tests, what would I use to certify? MWC? Or EIC?

Most suitable is Minor works. There will be some boxes on there that will not applicable but so long as you describe your extent of works thoroughly and explain why not applicable this should be fine.

I would use an EIC, it gives you the opportunity to record the information for the tests you've said you'll carry out.

Just remember to limit your liability by listing 'upgrade of earthing conductor only' in the extent&limitations box.

Also, I believe the replacement of the earthing conductor is notifiable if a domestic install.

It is domestic. Is it notifiable? I'll have to read my part P. I suppose you are right technically as it would be listed on the EIC as an 'alteration'

I'm about 95% certain that bonding (main and supplementary) are listed as non-notifiable with the notable exception of the earthing conductor.

Hi guys. So went to the job this morning.
Poor woman, British gas came in last week to install a central heating system. Said they wouldn't because of the state of the earthing system.
The earth is picture 2 white wire on the far left, about 4mm. Oh dear. (TNS system.)
Did a few tests, Ze 0.16/ PFC 1.46 so ok.
Picture 3 is the incoming to the cut-out. Im presuming a TNS because I cant see a PEN split.
EDF came last week to inspect their side of the supply. The guy told her she needs a PME system..... which your electrician installs:p
So now she's got to wait another four weeks for them to come back out to do ANOTHER assesment because the last guy didn't know, and than arrange another day to sort out whatever it is they decide for me to come back and upgrade the earth.

But I did manage to install some bonding whilist I was there. :D

Felt sorry cause she has to wait longer just cause some bloke came in with a hangover

Where does the white 4mm 'earthing conductor' actually go to?

I see it inside the consumer unit but not at the service head or incoming DNO cable, were you able to determine it's origin?

Nope. Only by a Ze test but no visual confirmation. My guess it's buried in side the lead sheath of the incoming. It dissapears behind a skirting board never to be seen again.
