Don't worry. Do the level 2 City & Guilds 2330, I assure you that when you come to do your Level 3 even if the 2330 has changed, all the training objectives will be met by your college and what ever course you take for your level 3 will be recognised by the industry. Hell I was C&G 236 and on the back of my JIB card is states I'm NVQ Lv3. I don't want NVQ (not very qualified) but trust me, you'll be ok.

Im in the same boat.

Ask your college what will happen, my college told me that the course you finish will be the new qualification.

They will change the course title and modify any content half-way through the course.

I think there will only be minor changes, nothing for us to worry about.

But that's only year 1 ill then have to go onto year 2 obviously, I'm just worried that if it ends then ill have gone to college for a year and not even completed level 2!

The alternative is do nothing for a year, at least you'll have some foundation knowledge and training.

Id just phone the college, or several colleges and ask what will happen.

Ask to speak to their electrical department and say "Im thinking of starting this course, but hear it will be changing soon.. what will happen?"...

see what responses you get.

Would be cool if you could come back and let us know what you find out.. it will help others here on the forum too.

Yeah, its the only route to take... with the only question being raised over the whole course thing changing but hopefully you'll find that out from some colleges.

Bare in mind that even if a college has to wait another year before the new course comes in... and doing this will not contribute to the new qualification and you'll have to start from scratch they will still recommend you do it... ~ They won't be upfront and say wait a year because they'll have a whole department not being used, staff not being paid and no funding from government for students.... a college is a business too, they aim to make money.....

thats the downside - bare it in mind, but remember... if you do year 1, and have to restart... you'll have an advantage over anybody else starting and stuff you didn't quite grasp in the first year you can go over again in the new course..

Im in exactly the same boat, and all I care about is starting to learn.... even if the course content/style changes, knowledge is knowledge.... Your training won't be obsolete because that would mean all existing C&G 2330 students wouldn't be able to work after the new course comes in.

ÂŁ420 at Loughborough - that is cheap. And second year is even less - ÂŁ360.

I just signed up in Northampton and it is ÂŁ740 for this year (level 2) but it is 2 nights a week and that includes registration fees, material costs etc. Maybe my course is just one year to attain level 2 - not sure atm

I wouldn't worry about the 2330 disappearing and this year being wasted - you will get credit for it and will not have to repeat it when it becomes the 2357 (or whatever)

The main thing to be concerned about is experience - you cannot become fully qualified without having worked in the industry. It is unlikely you will be able to enrol for the level 3 without having a job in the electrical field. But don't let that stop you - just go for it - start studying now and sort out a job later.

Easier said than done, the job thing, but not impossible. Hopefully the powers that be will recognise that getting experience is not easy to do these days and there will be some sort of work-around - but I'm not holding my breath waiting.

Quality college and quality tutors. Just finished my 2330 level 3 this summer at Loughborough and going back this autumn to do the 2391.
Bit of advice i can give is somehow get some electrical work based experience.
It'l will help you no end, the course is hard enough as it is and the end of year pratical assessment getting your corner piece conduit right will kill you!!
