I want to install 4 bulkhead lights and switch them with a stand alone PIR. Are there problems with PIRs and this type of lamp. If so can anyone recommend a suitable PIR?

I would never recommend using CFLs on PIRs. They take a significant time to come up to full brightness and switching them on and off repeatedly will reduce their life. I suggest using ordinary GLS lamps or the halogen replacements. Also, unless the lights are on for long periods, which is unlikely in most situations where a PIR is used, then the energy saving by using CFLs will be trivial.

The PIR I've installed most is this one:
Spectra - 200 deg PIR Sensor 1kW Load - Black
Good wide angle and appear to be reliable.
