Hi,

I'm a hard working 32 year old from Bristol, I'm looking at getting into the electrical game as I'm fed up with my dead end fork lift driving job. I decided I wanted to become an electrician after I had an electrician to install an extra socket in my kitchen and I seen how easy it was ( you just match colours ) and how much was charged for it. Can't believe how easy it was I even added another one onto it a few weeks later I drilled through the back of socket into the bathroom for wall mounted tv ( I know how cool is that) and don't worry it's no where near the bath im not stupid. It's works like a charm.

Anyway I'd like to get into the electrical game, what is the quickest route( and cheapest) ? And I'd like to be on a bit more than I'm on now (ÂŁ10 ph) after seeing how much the electrical firms charge I also have a house and family to look after. Has anyone on here got room for a really hard working 32 year old?

What is this nic you say to register with? The electrician said he was that ( I didn't know what he was on about at the time, is that to show you are a qualified electrician? How long does it take to do this course? The faster the better too be honest. I know the colours, voltage is 240v so I shouldn't find the nic exam difficult.

Thomas ?

How much did the electrician charge you for putting in a socket? You said it was expensive. how expensive?

If you've added another you may have spurred twice off a ring? Not allowed! Big no no... Get it checked soon.

Voltage technically 230 now Thomas. Give up been a clown.

LOL! this is a wind up.

NIC is short for NIC EIC look it up.

To be accredited you must first be qualified. As I said about 2-4k, 8 weeks intensive or 2-3 years at uni. then 450 to the man at the NIC every year after that, and you need to know your stuff.

I'm gonna stop it now...

He charged me ÂŁ75 and was only there 3 hours, ÂŁ25 ph I mean wtf?? What do you mean by spur? I haven't fitted a spur I have fitted a socket off a socket not a spur off a socket.

What do you mean wind up? I want to join the nic, why would I joke about joining the nic? Are they dodgy or something and I'm missing the joke?

Why is it a no no to spur twice off a ring?

As per 7671. You can spur twice but a different spur points. e.g. not twice spur off one socket unless a fused spur (I doubt it), but once off every socket if required...

I'll look for the section, hang on...

Now thats better IT, why did'nt you say that in the first place - instead of telling the OP that its a no-no to spur twice off a ring.

Well it is for someone who's doing DIY electrics LOL!
