Hi!
I have a traditional transformer which no longer works. I am now in the process of buying components to replace it. The old transformer goes from 240v to 11.4v (300VA). It has 4 circuits attached. I then went out and bought 3 105VA electronic transformers (this I realise is a mistake I should have bought 4). These new transformers do not have an earth. The old transformer had an earth on both sides i.e. primary and secondary.
- Have I bought the completely wronge products?
- If not what will I do with Earths?

Electronic transformers tend to be a (somewhat) separated supply and double insulated and so not require an earth, once you are down to 12V on a SELV supply then an earth is not required, or safe to connect. The earth up to the transformer should be terminated at the connection of the transformer input cables, it would be best to keep the earth cables from the transformer to the light fitting but do not connect them to either the transformer or the fitting simply make sure they are insulated and available should the fittings or transformers be changed at any time, do not cut them off.
