Hi all

Changeing an old wylex csu that has 3 16A storeage heater circiuts on it(TN-C-S).
Can the new csu be a normal one or does it have to have rcd protection?

i would think that as the storage heaters are fixed appliances then no rcd is needed .most storage heater boards are not rcd protected .are the heaters on spurs or 20a dp units ?

If the cables are buried less than 50mm you will need RCD protection.

As above will need rcd protection if cables are less than 50mm buried. Not sure if your have to go rcbo route or have them all off one rcd.

If you have to go the RCD route (cables buried =< 50mm), then I would suggest three seperate RCBO's, as these type of appliances are prone to high leakage currents, and may trip a 30mA upfront RCD in normal operation.

I think I'll go with the rcbo route,bit more expensive but more practical, ie nuisance tripping !and its only 3 circuits.

change of CU should bring it up to 17 edition including rcd protection
