Chasing out brick

Hello,

I am in the middle of chasing out for a rewire. In some areas I want to sink 35 mm boxes in brick to allow for easier termination. I would normally chase out for the cables to a similar depth but it is taking forever. I do have a wall chaser but find the dust it creates is unmanageable unless the house is empty.

Do you think it would be poor practice just to chase to below plaster level for the cables and sink the boxes deeper? Also any suggestions to the best method for sinking into the brick for a 40 mm grid switch box.

Have you not got a vacuum to attach to the chasing machine? I use a henry and that works fine.

I like to chase cables in to 20mm min, any less and the plaster will beforever cracking.

I feel for you, bricks can be a PITA.

For the deep box I stitch drill the box edges and crack it out with a bolster.

I do have a vacuum but find I still get loads of dust. Is your 20 mm for the plaster surface or into the brick?

The plaster is pretty thick and will be flattened with bonding then skimmed. So I guess my chases won't need to be too deep. Might have another go with the chaser and just totally seal the room.

drill a series of 6mm holes round the line of the box and chisel out. very easy pal

go for a 4 1/2" grinder with diamond wheel...still dusty but better than the wallchaser...which i think are just a waste of time....decent bolster, scutch and hammer....with a bit of brawn behind it....works for me....the sooner you go to it...the sooner its done mate...

Thanks for the advice. Might have a go with the grinder as the chaser always seems heavy kind of hard to control. Also thanks for the motivational advice glennspark:stooge_curly:
