He will probably need the 20k to have it done correctly done to the regs:eek:

I can just imagine what the job looks like though and I would point out every short cut, bodge etc that they've done just to make the guy squirm then say the inland revenue would be interested where all his cash was from and went .

I dont think the cheap labour thing ever works. I had a client who had her house refurbished by a few Poles and whenever she was on site the "electrician" was never there. After the work was complete she asked for the certs but never got any. I was at first asked for periodic report as she was renting the property out, but after seeing the work carried out, and asking her when the work was done, the only thing i could do was basically rewire it again. They had used earths as strappers on 2 way lighting, earths as neutrals on timer fans and lighting fed in 1mm on a 63A MCB. In all it originally cost her just over ÂŁ3000 for the original job, then another ÂŁ4000 to do again, with all the redecs etc...... So it always costs more in the long run!!

Ask any electrician most of our work is fixing mistakes made by DIYers or cheap labour. in a round about way it is keeping us in a job. just making it harder for the customer.
