well thats the last time i buy a c**t board, sorry i mean a chint board, plasticy cr**py thing that it is, i found it so hard to work with. bl**dy solid copper bars for the rcds make it awkward to get 25mm tails in without damaging the plastic din rail,. any one else had the same problem. think ill be going back to wylex next time

ah, will report back, just got a load of chint bits in well cheap and playing with them apear to be high quality, we will see.

not got a chint board though yet, will probaly stick with contactum now you said that, ta mate.( well untill b+q run out of their volex ÂŁ56 ten way boards ) I always put the garage RCBO next to the main switch as well, Think if there is loads of crap in the way will avoid using them. Any chance of posting a photograph ?

sorry mate never took any piccys and wont grt any cos i wont buy one again,
mcbs/rcds/rcbos are fine its just the plastic din rail snapped when i tried ti fit it when i had put the tails in because of the solid copper conductors connecting the rcs and main switch

wow, i fitted a few chint CU now and i found them to be ok..! some times i found the mcb clipping to the din was a challange but never suffered serious malfunction of the rail..! i like chint as plenty room to play in above the MCB..also cheap and look the part...

they made in same factory as Hager!!

hahaha i had the exact same problem not so long back.
chintz suck but there again the new hager arent that much better tbh,on the newer hager domestic boards all the fixing points are detachable? anyone gives the board a whack when its mounted and theres not to say it wont come off the wall, ive got into the habit of using penny washers now just to give it a chance.

Ah, yes, I have come across these boards, also known as Cudis, take a look at the two web pages and compare.................

Cudis CPN 8 - 18 Way Consumer Units

Consumer Unit 18 Way 80A Dual RCD - Consumer Unit 18 Way 80A Dual RCD - Consumer Units Dual RCD 17th Edition - Consumer Units - Chint Direct

I had the misfortune of fitting one of these things, I usually swear by Wylex (or Crabtree are identical!), but these were on offer. If the wall is even slightly out the MCB's will not line up and allow you to fit the cover. Nasty.

So did I and so did I, we live and learn I suppose;)

I see you are from Yarm, is the Ketton Ox pub still going, used to go there a lot in a past life when i used to go to that MOD place just up the road.:)

I believe that if you can get a good CU for under 100 notes then stick with it.

I know we are all looking to save on material costs but if you do fit a cheap CU, you never know how many callbacks you will get, for whatever reasons.

I try to use hager wherever I can. It makes a big difference using better thought out stuff. I always tell the customer that there is cheaper material available but I dont use it due to complicated installlation leading to increased labour and long terms problems. Most agree that the material should not be the place to save money.

chint and contactum(who apparently have gone bust) are not great as far as im concerned,i would much prefer to pay extra ÂŁ20 for wylex, hager or mem, client should not mind paying for quality goods these other ones seem a bit flimsy,is it just me or with these 17th edition cu,s the manufacturers forgot to leave much room for you to dress the cables in nicely a bit of an afterthought perhaps.
