Chocboxes

Hi all,

Does anyone else find the screws on these for the cable clamps, a nightmare to screw in ?
I think the chocbox was an excellent invention apart fom this one problem, unless i just managed to get a dodgy batch.

Ive seen these ones in screwfix, and wondered if they are any better :

Im also tempted to give the wago box a try as lots of people have raved on about them

First thing I do is throw em in the bin, then snap off the daft bit sticking up from the cover.

Use cable ties on them, miles better than the clamps. Oh, also don't use connecter blocks either, use Wagos

They are rubbish personal opinion of course, cheap plastic and fiddlely on a par with magnamole, click flow connectors are far quicker for downlights and for general junction boxes Ashely 801's.

Wago boxes are just the same amount of messing as using a choc box IMO. The click flow are no quicker to wire, just great if you want to disconnect downlights for testing. The only time I used clickes, the cable grips didn't grip at all with 1.5mm t+e.

They look pretty useful. If you make a joint with one of them for lighting is it legal to leave it loose in the ceiling according to the UK regs or should you screw it securely to a rafter / joist.

Same here, looked like a good idea but like you say couldnt keep cables in place.

Shame really because when you pop back after the plasterer has been it's just a case of plugging them in, thats it... no wiring second fixing involved done already.

Glad its not just me then. End of the day, they're just as fiddly as connector blocks as thats all they all with a plug attachment.

Using the cage clamp lighting Wagos makes connecting up after plastering a doddle too though, Ok so yheres a little extra work of fitting a cable tie!
