Hello all,

I thought I would post this information up on here just so you can understand what the current developments are with this domestic NVQ fiasco.

We've received contact from C&G informing us on this prospective qualification and asking for our feedback on assessment strategy.

The bulk of the email is as follows:

City & Guilds intends to launch a new qualification in Autumn 2012, the 2397 Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Installing, testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings (Qualifying Supervisor). The purpose of this qualification is to prove competence for any individual working as a Qualified Supervisor responsible for electrical work carried out in dwellings which comes under Part P of the Building Regulations (for England and Wales).
We are currently consulting with centres and industry regarding the correct assessment strategy for this qualification, and would appreciate if you could complete this short questionnaire indicating your interest in the qualification, and preference of assessment strategy and support materials. Any comments you make will form the basis of discussion on the assessment methodology recommended for 2397.

Kind regards

The City & Guilds ViewPoint team

We have responded with our concerns and opinions directly with City & Guilds, so I am asking if you guys have any suggestions and I will forward them with the form they have provided.

Again I assume, those currently practising as QS with their respective companies are exempt from taking this qualification???

Last I heard that was correct, and if you are not currently practising as a QS but were in the past 2 years then you also would be considered without this qualification.

Unfortunately the CP schemes seem to make things up as they go so who knows how they will stretch their requirements to either boost registrations or sell training courses.

The cynic in me believes this will more than likely be the case too.

It wont take much for the CP schemes to come up with some sort of rule relating to enrolment that will have to include this new qual.

Widdler,

I will no doubt get this sent to me as well. Maybe if everyone sends the same to me, then we will have a two pronged attack. Just an Idea

Just to say that this qualification is now LIVE, and is now being offered by a (very) few Colleges. It is Modular, and consists of 8 separate modules. These can be APL'd (accreditation of prior learning) in some cases, a matrix is available from City & Guilds. The EAS document is available as well for checking the routes into qualification for the 'Q.S.' position. The following blog has some links to the EAS document and the City & Guilds qualification page.

City and Guilds 2397 ? Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings ? Interest Growing!

Hope it helps anyone else who is slightly confused at the moment.

I am taking the EAL route with this one, and will only offer the EAL version, which has the same clout as C&G. I find that C&G are a tedious organisation to work with, and EAL is a breeze.

You sound like you know the answers im looking for...

Is it only the C&G an EAL versions that are recognised?

Ive seen loads of domestic installer courses, but what (except experience) do you actually need?

According to napit, or maybe it was elecsa - you only need the 17th... that cant be right?
