As the title.... I'm thinking of getting one of these for a job coming up with around 100 small SWA ends to make off. What's everyone's experience of these ? do they do a good job and speed things up ? are there any better products out there for the same job ?

I got one a few weeks back from Eddies, really cheap in there opposed to other places. I've not had chance to use it yet.

bought one at elex. does the job. secret is not to clamp it up too tight or it rags the armour strands. a few practice cuts on some scrap helps. it even has an arrow to tell you which way to rotate. would not be without mine. no strands left uncut as you often get using hacksaw.

Yes its a CK armourslice, i had various quotes of £30 odd, i think the manager is doing it at cost price for me

that's below cost. mine was £30 inc. VAT direct from CK. but worth every penny.

I brought a kewtech one last week, absolutely useless threw it straight in the bin!

Well I got one of these and had been giving it a go this week. I fell into the trap (even though tel warned me) of screwing it down too tight for the first couple of glands. Once I got the hang of it, things went ok. Less pressure and more rotations produced a nice square cut with no strands left out.
I have to say though, as a time saver, it isn't one. I got the junior out for comparison today and did it just as quick, if not quicker with the old method. Time is also eaten into by changing the poor quality blades. 20 glands saw 3 blades dead ! A junior blade would easily outlast that ! Not what I expected with the tool itself being of such good build quality.

This is entirely possible. I've been called fat handed many a time so there must be some truth in it.

I've got one, I got through one blade per cable for the first four! Now the last blade has survived for about 30 cables so I think I might have got the hang of it now

Sounds like it's teething problems with me too then..... more practice on Monday...

Seen these CK bad boys recently in a few wholesalers, I got the Kew Technik Bladerunner a few years ago and I absolutely love it, it's seen loads of use and has saved me a fair amount of time too.

Since the blade just looks like a lump of hacksaw blade I might try chopping an eclipse blade when mine needs new ones.

Exactly what I was thinking of doing
My tool did come with 6 blades though, and I seem to be getting the hang of it now, so hopefully won't be doing it just yet.
