I just got a pair of CombiCutters 3 for ÂŁ18 brand new as i blew a nice 2.5mm hole in mine ;) and it says it has a wire-bending tool on it. I cant see how it works, can anyone explain/show me via pics? Thanks.

You need to double the end over first and then use the "anvil" to squash it together. Saves carrying round a pair of pliers aswell I suppose.

I was thinking this but i just bend it with cutters, and squash it together with cutters aswell but i guess this "anvil" makes it less likely to damaged cable as it says. Thanks anyway. :D

TBH I think just about every spark (I stand to be corrected of course) uses his/her side cutters for folding over.

i stand corrected said the man in the orthopedic shoes!!!

anyways

ive been using CK crops (T3963 Cable Cutter - 210mm) for a few years since finding a set above a suspended celling, they cut through pretty much anything with minimal effort and have a nice notch for stripping off ends whic.h With side cutters sometimes in cold weather etc can be a right pain. only thing is i keep some long nose pliers in my pocket too for doubling back.

I think having looked at a pair of new VDE CK 160MM CombiCutter3's that actually the wire anvil is 2 fold..

First get the wire and put it in the side of the cutters, the bit right under "Germany" is 1.5mm and the other side thats under "made in" is 2.5mm if you put a straight bit of stripped wire into that it will start the bend process.. then put the bent bit (bend first) into the hole at the very bottom of the metal section. that will "crimp" the bend.

Not sure if anyone else has tried this yet?

Thanks

Where did you get them for that price please? Your link does not work for me.

Cheers Lenny, i did wonder what that bit was for on mine, now i can add it as no 57 of things i do with my cutters. They tend not to last me very long anyway, but then you must have guessed that :)

i bought the same ones a few weeks ago. found them awkward, and because the cutters are part normal and part flush, they won't cut through a 2.5mm T/E. in 1 go. bit of a pain. 1 good feature is the bootlace crimper. does 1.5, 2.5. and, although it doesn't say, 4mm as well.

I bought a pair a few years back.
Whilst the notches are fine for stripping conductors, I found the cutting blades to be blunt.
ot much use for anything other than stripping conductors, and I prefer using either my normal side cutters or an automatic stripping tool.

I have a pair of those and a normal pair of knipex. the ck are great when working with 1.5 and 2.5 and for stripping the inner core by just a squeeze of the snips on the cable. the cutting surface is rubbish though. they are a great size in the hand and lovely to hold. also got the smaller pair of ck shears and use them quite a bit for any bigger cable as they cut it like butter.

To be able to cut through 2.5 T+E in one cut you need the larger 180mm Combicutter 3 Max, which has a longer cutting area.
