Clamp Meter

Hi all
I have been trawling through ebay looking for test kit etc One item that I see a lot are clamp meters Please forgive my ignorance but how would you use these & why ?

Used to measure current on a conductor without any disconnetions as the unit incorporates a current transformer. Simply clamp meter over cable and read result.

clamp meter measure the emf around cable and converts to a readable voltage or current depends what you are after.
