Easy question... Can someone recommend me a clamp meter...

Obviously don't want cheap rubbish, but don't want to spend a fortune. Reasonably priced mid-range meter would be ideal but I'm not sure which are worth the money...

depends on what you want. an earth leakage clamp meter is the most useful, but they cost more.

Like for like, the physics suggests that an open jaw clamp meter like that of the Fluke T5 or Megger DCM330 is not going to be as accurate or have the resolution of a similar ranged closed jaw clamp meter, but in most non-critical measurements may be more convenient. This is reason you don't see open jaw earth leakage clamp meters.

Fluke clamp meters.....there's ones with a colour display now, built in scope, power analyser etc....about ÂŁ400.00 or a Fluke standard closed clamp meter for about ÂŁ160.00...

don't know about the megger ones but I think they will be good....

I would go for a good quality true rms meter and a separate current clamp. Something like fluke 179 with one of their clamps to suit your needs.

I bought this clamp meter about 2 months ago and I haven't been dissapointed, it pretty much does everything I wanted it too and it was a really good price

I have the T5 but I am looking at this one as well, although I am still researching. TM-EL9809 High Resolution AC Earth Leakage Clamp Meter

This is a re-named Di Log unit, the unit i have!! Only brought two bits of kit with me to China, they were the Di Log leakage clamp and the Fluke T 1000!! Never had any problems with this unit your looking at, it's resolution and accuracy is right up there with the Megger and Fluke units, and at a fraction of the price. A good all round buy!!

There's the new CNX system from Fluke, which features a clamp datalogging module that connects wirelessly to a multimeter, this may also be worth considering as an option should you wish to carry out any datalogging over time.

Wireless Test Tools

Also, the Martindale brand of clamps are good value for money with a lot of extra features included too - Martindale Clamp Meters

That's the problem - they're all pretty much clones of one another. There'll be considerable differences in quality, but nothing that stands out...
