Hi,

I have spoken to many of other Electricians who I work with and others who I know, all have different ideas on this, and I'm now confused !

1. What are the exact advantages of having the C&G 2391?

2. Do you need this to be NICEIC registered? Domestic Installer/Approved Contractor? Whats the difference between these two?

3. Without having the 2391, I believe you can sign off your work if you are registered as a NICEIC Domestic Installer in a DOMESTIC installation only? If this is the case how do you sign off your own work in a Industrial/Commercial/Agricultural installation? Can you, or not? If not, how do you go about doing this - is this where the 2391 comes into it?

4. Can you do Periodic Inspections if you have not got the 2391 and only registered as a NICEIC Domestic Installer?

Sorry about all the questions, I just hope that some of you guys can help clear up this up for me once and for all ;).

Cheers, LEO

1 - proves competence in inspection & testing.

2 - You can register with ANY of the schemes. NICEIC - Most known.

3 - You can sign off your own work without 2391 in domestic & comm/ind.

4 - Anyone can do PIR's - no registration required, although plenty of insurance will be needed.

Sorry to butt in guys. But is this still ok to carry out commercial work without a 2330 level 3, and nvq3 etc? If i have the 2391 and 2392? When does the need for a jib gold card holder arise? Cheers

1, As Jason said
2, Approved vs Domestic. Depends on your needs. If you want to sign off under part P Domestic is fine. Full on NICEIC Approved recognises your ability to cover pir's I must add in the eyes of the NICEIC. Everyone else seems to recognise the 2391 but with NIC you either go the approved route or cover a further assesment by them (More money). Then you can purchase there very own red PIR certs Whoopeee:rolleyes:.
3, If you cover pir's you may need to show a level of competance, the 2391 demonstrates this discipline on paper. Also there is no part P for commercial work so signing off under the scheme is not required.
4, Is covered by 3. In the NICEIC world its their own red pir's that you wont be able to purchase under domestic unless you cover the points above;)

Oh yes! If your registered with the jib as an electrician. the 2391 will take you to Approved Electrician status Gold Card.

Thanks chaps for the info, that has helped clear up a few things...;)

You mentioned about commercial/industrial, that you don't have to sign it off as it is not part of the part p (only domestic - I am aware of this), How do you guy's go about these installations (Ind/Commercial) do you still issue certificates for the installations or not?

Thanks again.

Hi Leo,

You still have to inspect/test/ issue certificates, mate.

The only difference is that commercial/industrial don't come under Part P of the Building Regs, so no need to notify Building Control or Scheme Providers:)
