question my friend just phoned me hes a spark in industrial back ground any way hes just changed his consumer unit to a dual rcd board he seems to think the rcbo wont trip if he has a fault cos it has no earth but am i right in telling him which i think i am that it will trip as soon as it detects an in balance regardles of earth or no earth

Does the RCBO only feed class 2 fittings?

An imbalance means that somewhere current is going to earth, so on his class 2 fittings this will never be the case. Has he got earth cont at furthest point on circuit?

I would say you are (between Line & Neutral)

and...

You don't actually need a physical cpc present, eg a fitting might be damp and current is leaking away into the fabric of the building.

Right I see. Just read your post again and noticed you had actually said that.

Also just noticed Archy has added to his post what I was about to add regards leakage into the building structure and obviously nail or screw into cable then through said person putting nail or screw in, possibly!
