"Clean" batteries for off-grid systems

Dear all,

Which battery manufacturers would you recommend for off-grid PV systems (500Wp-1500Wp)?
I'm looking for a storage solution which is as "clean" as possible: minimal use of toxic and non-recyclable materials.

I always use APC batteries for our safety services, I found them to be reliable and good quality.

This I would imagine is for an industrial/commercial install and I imagine you have done all the design work, and all the regulations, risk assessments etc regarding battery storage

The off-grid systems would be used to power water pumps.
I'm just at an initial stage of assessing who the suppliers of the various components could be so that I can check the price issues accordingly.

I'd love to find someone who has made a serious step towards a more environmentally friendly battery solution..any other suggestions?
