Cocealing TV cables (in wall)

A customer has asked about concealing his TV cables (HDMI, CAT 6, power etc) in the wall. He has a wall mounted TV about 1200mm off the floor, underneath he has a low level cabinet with all the doo-dahs in. He wants the cables to go into the wall at floor level and exit behind the TV. He'd like to have 'brushes' at either end of the duct and be able to put cables in or take them out as required.

Obviously the duct side of it is straight forward enough, basically just a huge chase and some ducting or trunking inserted and plastered over. The brushes part has me a bit stumped though. I've had a google but everything seems to be surface mount or at least and exposed lid. Anyone know of anything 'off the shelf' for this?

Cut the bottom off a 2g pattress and put a face plate on it http://www.screwfix.com/p/labgear-double-brushed-faceplate-brushed-chrome/62975

Yeah, that's the only option I've been able to find. Just wondered if there was anything available as a single unit as it's not that unusual a requirement.

I'm going to have to either double it up or use split trunking to separate signal and power cables too. So it'll either need double fronts or two singles top and bottom.

Yeah i understand your predicament myself, been there a few times and this is the only solution i could come up, bar one scenario where on a stud wall before it was boarded i was able to build my own containment using plasterboard as a divider before the wall board was put on. Made a real nice easy job of it too

This is a block and brick cavity wall, so maintaining strength and insulation will be a challenge. It's a really weird bungalow built in the '80s. All odd levels, corridors and curved walls. I suppose to some it looks 'quirky', to me it looks like the inside of a South American knocking shop with it's painted (purple) brick walls and lack of natural light. Each to their own I suppose.

Sounds to me like you have inheritted a nightmare job. Would it to be simpler to use media plates top and bottom, that way its just regular chasing

Yes it would, but "I'd like to be able to put cables in or take them out as required." So I have to leave enough room to shove a SCART connector up and down with the cabling in.

It's do-able, just. Personally I would be shoving all the boxes etc off somewhere else and doing the lot in fixed HDMI and CAT5/6. I can't see the point of having a wall mounted TV, then putting a cabinet on the floor beneath it with everything in that. Still, the customer is allways right :6:

I think you meant to say "The customer is never right" :)

I'd be checking the actual cables the customer wants to put in and out. I was asked this once and they wanted a SCART cable - you'd need a fairly large bit of trunking to allow this to pass through!

Why bother with containment when you have a cavity at your disposal?
You could core in with a big enough core for the plugs.
I wouldnt bother about segregation as this is not fixed wiring, its from a plugtop, therefor, if you like, after the event (fixed wiring regs).
Then you can use aluminium brush draught strip from the likes of Screwfix and form it into circular shapes to fit into your cored sleeves.
