Found r80 spots cut into a varnished wood celing im tempted to code 1

code 1 where did you get that from ? fitting is enclosed so no fire risk and not enough heat to combust wood, so stop worrying your customers. immidiate danger i think not
 
Not sure I agree Nick. Does the fitting sport the 'F' symbol to say that it is suitbale for mounting into flammable surfaces? Was the lamp the correct rating? Was there evidence of heat damage where it has been recessed? Was it a fire compartment ceiling? Was there a fire/ smoke detection system in place? How was the wiring terminated to the fitting? I would have to say code 2 if the answers were 'no'. Its not a code 1 as its not an immediate danger. Direct contact is a code 1, code 2 represents something that could become dangerous under fault conditions.
