Can anybody provide any help on an electric oven with gas hobs. Hobs are continually sparking without pressing the black button at the front, so when gas is turned on the hob lights automatically. You can hear the clicking noise quite clearly. At the moment have just switched oven off at electric point on wall, so presumably this isn't dangerous even if we use it for cooking, but is this likely to be a major problem or something really simple. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

The unit pack is either breaking down or you have deterioration on the cable insulation.

These sparking units are literally earthing to ground when they are pressed, which is why if your sometimes hold the hob case and spark you will get a little belt.

Have a look and see if the cable is showing any bare conductor, if not then most likely it's the unit and they are disposable, and get a new one

Ziggy,

It could also be a stuck push button, i've had that before on a past gas hob!! easy to fix too... lol!!! worth a check at least...
