I have been asked to carry out a job and would like to know if anyone can see any problems with what I intend to do

3 phase and neutral car lift supplied via 2.5 mm cable protected by 3 phase 20amp mcb I intend to come off 1 phase to supply a 13amp rcd protected twin socket to supply drills hand lamps etc

do any electricians see in problems in doing this I am an Niceic approved contractor and am stuck on this one

Yeah I thought it would be fine but have been told from someone that's it's not right as it is not indiviually fused

I've done it with people lifts to supply fuse boards and don't see any difference here

Cheers for the help

out of curiosity -i notice that the starters on these car lifts don't have overload protection fitted(2 i looked at recently anyhow)

why would that be or am i missing the obvious thanks

With regards to coming off a phase you will get loads of mixed responses, some do and some dont. I definately wouldnt hook off to supply a socket or some other without putting a seperate MCB inline but as its an RCD protected socket I would go with it. After all what is the neutral for on 3P+N circuits, it is only what happens inside control panels etc...

As per above from Dave. Swap to a 63A outlet and problem goes away. What gets plugged into it is not part of an inspection.
