Hi all.

I'm use to testing domestic property's and happy to do so, but been ask by a new company to do commercial and industrial pirs. Got a few questions.

When carrying out r1+r2 test, how do you complete this on lighting? Do you check at the last night and what happens if you can't get there?
Secondly when carrying ir test on lighting, do you disconnect all lights or do you not test between line and neutral?

Any help and other pointers would be great

thanks Dave

use a wander lead to measure R2 if it's awkward access. ditto with IR. short L and N , then test fron thare to E. sometimes with industrial you can't isolate a circuit, so just do the Zs and put LIM for the dead test readings.

Find end of line and test , if u can t test at one u can get to and make a note . Far as the IR testing line to earth disconecting all the fittings is not reasonably practical for a L to n test hope this helps

when i done 2394/5 you were told to test every light point in the circuit because the cpc could be twisted together and not connecteted to the light so you could miss this by just testing the last one , a know its a lot more work so is it worth doing it like that or not?

it all depends on what the client will pay for. if the budget is enough for a day's work , then you do what you can in 1 day.

Apply common sense (if there remains any in this country), agree with client what they are willing for you to test then note on certificate what you have and haven't done. Test according to site conditions and bs7671.

I was also taught this but I believe that in most circumstance it's too difficult to do this with timescale and labour therefore end of line test would be best in such a location.

There Called EICR now but maybee Im being a bit picky

When doing industrial and commercial EICR you will come across a lot of limitations due to access of end of lines and not being able to turn power off , test at furthest accessible end points, note all limitations in the report and make sure the person ordering the report agrees with the them

Quite amazed at the amount of people here that think conducting industrial EICR's are going to be anything like the same as Domestic installations. You're entering a whole new ball game to be totally honest and a game where statutory regulations are just waiting to catch out the unsuspecting!! lol!!
