I've been doing maintenance work on a tanker cleaning facility. I've been charging them 35 ph. Bear in mind that I've had to work evening and weekends to fit around the rest of my work. A greedy middle man who I've been invoicing through has been trying to bully me to drop my rate. I just want to know what guys think. Am I over the top at that rate or shall I tell them to stick it up their jaxie

£35 is quite fair imo, and what most of us need to charge to make a living. If you are established and trusted by the firm, then stick to your guns. If, however, they don't care less about who does the work, you may find yourself up against competition. Only you can weigh up the situation where you are mate.

You stick to your rate dude. These greedy middle men have no other choice left to earn money.

Express to them you are working out of hours at standard rates and you'll be happy to drop to £30 ph if they are happy to pay 1.5x overtime during week and 2x weekend.

Also express £35 is competitive rate but they may find cheaper but wont get this rate out of hours as you do.

That should make them think a bit...
