asked to replace 3 x single tube 5 ft fluorescent fittings with new surface mount type.im suggesting each new fitting be 2x58watts.As this is very basic work almost like for like would there be any need to notify building control?..surely at most this will be a minor works certificate?or maybe no certicate required?each room is about 5mx 2.5m so maybe i spec a bit high on the light level but i don't think hes too fussed.
.thanks for reading.

Re said works, you state it is commercial site. If so you don't have to notify Building Control. You will still have to issue a Minor works certificate as although you are not altering the circuit , you are change the fittings for an alternative. Also you will need to make sure the circuit complies, taking in the additional load [ although marginal] \and it complies with all aspects / paramiters for the altered circuit. ie Zs, VD, Ib, In. Regards piccollo

just printed a minor works cert.filled a few of these out in college so back to my notes this evening to refresh my mind on all tests.vd 3% for lights, zs will measure and compare to onsite guide table value,Ib design current will clamp meter it before and after and do wattage calc just to verify and compare to protective device In.
thanks piccollo.

What your'e going to do is alright, but main thing is where are these lights in relation to the circuit / run. If at the end or on own circuit, no problems, but in commercial properties & industrial properties there may be many lights on the circuit. Only you will know the on site situation.Thats why a lot are wired in 2.5mm2 to eleviate these problems.Hopefully comments are heplfull. Regards Piccollo
