Hello all
I have been asked to quote for a three story house:

ground floor is going to be a shop with a small office, disabled toilet and small kitchen.

second and third floor are just a basic set up with a bedroom on each, bathroom and kitchen- all seperate to the shop on the ground floor.

my main questions are:

What kind of emergency lighting will i need in the shop floor? and how many?

will i need a disabled toilet alarm?

As i know a few other electricians are quoting and I want to keep my quote as low as possible will i be able to put in standard smoke and heat alarms in the shop? not a dedicated fire alarm panel.

Any help or feedback much appreciated

thanks in advance

I believe if the toilet is built to cater for the disabled then an alarm needs to be fitted, but the toilet may not necessarily need to be built to cater for the disabled.

Emergency lighting should cover escape routes as a minimum.

You will probably need a fire alarm system that links the upstairs flat and the shop.

You should really be working to a spec for this type of quote and the relevant requirements should have been stipulated by others.

thanks for replies , as per usual there is no spec for this job

Gonna be difficult to quote properly then and gonna be difficult for the customer to choose between quotes that are probably not going to be comparable.

As Risteard says, a fire risk assessment is usually the first step. There may also be requirements by the local authority and/or insurance companies as to what grade of fire alarm is required. A suitably qualified person whose insurance covers them for such activities is usually a good idea for the decision of the grade of alarm and the design of the alarm system.

yeah it is difficult its like this with all there jobs, i normally just state in the quote that if fire alarm is required it is ex amount.

would you put an emergency light in the disabled toilet? or just like you said above the door way ?
