One of the DEA's I use passed me a lead which we've converted into a job. We've had one of those conversations that went along the lines of if the job converts then we'll be happy to give you something but I wasn't explicit and neither was he. I want to be fair but there aren't loads of jobs round and things are tight - how much do you think is reasonable???? I know he used to make a serious wadge "selling" solar although the firm he worked for before overpriced everything - I hope he isn't expecting mega bucks!!

We pay customers a £50 referral if they recommend us to family and friends and it comes off. I would have thought something the same. I take it you still had to sell the system and do all the hard work.

I am currently looking at a bird dog system with people I know in other trades who are in and out of peoples houses quite frequently. Payment will only be if we get an install, but are looking at substantially more than £50.00. We will also be training people about what makes a good customer and a good property, so no ones time is wasted.

I'd happily pay more for that sort of lead, this was simply here's the name of someone who has rung me about solar. The guy has got an initial EPC out of it after we'd sold it and a follow up visit for when the pv is on. As I say I don't want to be mean, but the margins are tight.

I'm thinking about it but tbh he talks a bit of a b*****t and he's probably the opposite of the way we operate. I know ... beggars can't be choosers ... but our customers buy from us as people not as a business.

What's a bird dog system? I assume it's tapping into the other trades who are regularly in other people's houses. Like the idea we used to do that many moons ago in another life. Never quite got it to work effectively but it's a really good idea.
