Hey fella's, how you all doing? this is my 1st post.

I am interested in doing the compex course as my plan is to seek work.....(wait for it).....(drum roll).....offshore work. Yes i must be mad to try this as it does seem's like an impossible task even more so when you read these forums. I am not an electrician but an electronics technician. My HND in electrical and electronics so im classed as electrical for the compex course. This talk of glands, etc means nothing to me. I do have a spark who is gonna help me with the practical which is great.

So the course is 5 days and about a grand. A lot of money to shell out if i dont pass. I read about guys failing the course? i would not like to think a qualified spark would fail the course?

Already paid for my BOSIET and MIST so this is even more money on top of this.

Cheers

Hi, I was looking in to Compex as well earlier this year. I was in contact with Falkirk college who run a course. They told me that you would need to have prior knowledge of that type of environment. I think the pass rate would be quite low.
I chose to take the 2391 instead which I am doing at college currently. And then next year go for the Compex course.
It's a lot of money to waste if you are not up to the right level of competence to get a pass.

That's just my two pence.

Installation electrician. I have a couple of mates on the rigs and would like to get sorted myself.
Everyone wants you to have experience! So if I can nail the 2391 it will be Compex 01 -05 next.

The 2391 is way harder than the compex, not many offshore lads seem to bother with the 2391 and take the compex, although i don't think you can get an approved card without the 2391 so it's well worth doing

No, most rig sparks dont have 2391. There are testing elements in the Compex course. I just want to have a crack at getting my approved card then tackle the Compex. Have a look at the Opito website for some usefull info about the rigs.
