Is putting a standard downlight above a shower or bath ok providing its more than 2.25m above Ffl?

Plus if this is compliant, won't there be condensation issues that could prove dangerous?

I wouldn't put anything inside a bathroom that wasn't ip rated. I know there are certain areas which are classed as safe, but it's not worth it.

WATER/STEAM causes corrosion. Stick an IP fitting up and save yourself a call back ;)

Hmm. I believe a concrete ceiling acts as a fire barrier?

Is there a fan in there as well? Surely the magical fire that starts in the bath will travel through the plastic fan before the metal down light?

you can get ip rated non fire proof fittings...(no fire cans) or you could wrangle a fabric fire hood above it if you are worried.

at the end of the day you can only do what is possible. If it was a wooden floor above not being able to use fire cans I'd say you can't have down lights. But being solid concrete gives you a get out of jail card.

Bit of a grey area really :)

Hmmmm. The reason for using fire cans/hoods is to prevent fire traveling through the downlight and up to the next floor. Is that really going to happen? Last time I checked fire doesn't travel through concrete. Unless there are obvious service voids near the fitting then obviously you would need a fire can/hood.

Id just fit standard ip rated fittings as its a concrete floor and not wood...

If you find fittings to suit then get them. Money shouldn't be a question?

unless you've priced the job then you may be screwed...

at the end of the day it is what it is.

if they're the only lights that fit then that's how much they cost. It's the client who's paying for them...
