Hi

Can anyone confirm or disprove the need to identify the two sets of legs at a socket when extending in singles. I'm sure I remember something about having to ensure you extend the right legs? I think it's somehow done by putting each leg to earth and testing at the board and identifying them by their resistances. Leccy school was such a long time ago!

cheers

way to identify which are the legs is to split the ring and carry out an r1 r2 and then r1 rn test

Yes you have to extend / splice into the correct leg of the ring, otherwise you would get unequal lengths (and therefore resistances) of the Line, Neutral, and CPC, which I imagine would cause all sorts of weird problems with your RCD.

No it wouldn't create a problem for the RCD.

Draw it out and you'll see why! :-)

Cough cough cough. Oh dear, I really shouldn't post before I've had my breakfast gin....
