What type of cable should be used for site cabins on construction sites?

More than likely SWA but it would of course depend on the circumstances.

What circumstances according to the 17th edition regulations would require SWA cable and which ones would be excempt from this level of mechanical protection.

i would imagine that not many cable types would be suitable for the possible mechanical damage that could occur on building sites.

The site mains would hardly ever be inside a portacabin but elsewhere on site within an enclosure. therefore a cable suitable would need to be run over ground or buried (SWA in both cases) or via catenary wire (SWA again due to fork lifts or other lifting equipment). i would suggest that there would only be only very few cases that anything other than SWA could be used. namely if two portacabins were absolutely next to each other and a supply was needed from one to other. the gap between such unit would of course hae to be very small otherwise you would be considering SWA again.

Hope this helps. as i said before it wuld depend on the site circumstances. i am not aware of much in the way of changes from the 16th to the 17th with regards to sites, but i am ready to be corrected if someone has details.

Do cabins a couple of days a week and only ever SWA to cabin CU then standard T&E inside. Don't settle for anything else than SWA, and even that doesn't protect against everything. Try running a dozer over a cable and see what happens!
