hi, I'm new at this internet lark and hoping someone could help me with a few issues i have about the cert issued for a consumer unit change:

my question is a simple one for those who know the how, if i change a consumer unit what cert has to be completed? and also what tests, surely every circuit has to be tested, but do i record the readings for every circuit?? if this is done isnt that just same as a PIR? has anyone got a sample of a completed cert? im just stressing myself out. thanks

You will need to complete just the EIC with the schedules of inspection and results, and that will be for each circuit of the installation, so technically you can say your doing PIR but your not if that makes sense, as you will not be doing a sampling of the existing installation.

I often recommended to a customer that it is advisable to do a full PIR espicially on an old installation, ie VIR or a lighting circuit that as no CPC, and do a discount for them and produce both a PIR and an EIC for them. Often though that was rejected and therefore just an EIC.

Minor Works Certificates may be used for minor works, that do not involve the installation of a new circuit or a Distribution Board (or similar).
You are required to ensure that the existing equipment (including that of the network supplier) is adequate for the safety measure/s intended to protect any alteration or addition.
You are further required to Inspect and Test the work covered by the Certificate, as such there is no requirement to I&T any of the existing installation.
However if you do I&T any of the existing installation, it would be a bit pointless not to record the results.
Just ensure that the Certificate describes exactly what the extent of the work carried out is, otherwise someone might attempt to use your EIC to cover the whole installation.

Its not a PIR because you don't have to make any visual inspections. Just test that the circuits will accomodate the new CU. I've got to do one this week for a family member. The house is huge and he reckons theres a few problems on lights and sockets. I just know I'm going to be there for hours for no coin at all!
