:)Hi All,
I've got a brand new wylex consumer unit which has mains incomer switch (non rcd) feeding 2 a 6a RCBO's , 2 x 32A, MCB and 1 x 40 A MCB. Then also it has 5 MCB's ( 2 x 16 A , 2 X 6A and 1 x 32A) FROM A 30mA RCD.

My question is i'm going to use this as an assesment piece for Elecsa but will is this considered a 17th edition board or do i need it to have two 30mA RCD Units ? I'm thinking if i RCD everything that should be RCD'd through the 30mA RCD and put the upstairs and downstairs lighting on seperate 6A RCBO's then this would be ok.

Also two other questions :

does the consumer unit have to have an on/off switch as well as RCD

What are the un RCD'd breakers for ( 2 x 32A and 1 x 40 A)

Thanks in advance for any help.:)

There is no such thing as a 17th edition board its just an in house term used by sparkies for duall rcd boards. You need to asses each individual circuit nad its means of protection in relation to the circuits installation method for compliance with current regulations. So your single rcd board with a mainswitch could be deemed a high integrity combination. Nothing wrong with that because you also have rcbo's, however you need to ensure that the installation methods for any non rcd circuits ie mcb's only are compliant with current regs. In most domestic installs they wont be. ie if the cables are burried within the fabric of the building, on the other hand thay could be surface fixed in mt 2 and not feeding outside equipment ect ect.
