Consumer Unit for a Beauty Salon

P

Piratepete

Hi Guys
I'm replacing an old Wylex fused cu.

Is there any requirement to use a dual rcd cu or seperate rcbos in a commercial property? It has one lighting circuit, one ring, a shower, and a sunbed supply.

I should add that this place has two cus covering half each of the premises. The first half has a cu with an rcd mainswitch. I'm working in the second half.

Cheers
Pete

Ps. How do you get the
title to display in bold?

Why?
Unfortunately I didn't price for rcbos and the job has no fat in it! However I will put the sunbed on it's own rcbo for technical reasons (50 Amp C curve requirement)

What's the point in asking questions after you.ve priced the job and decided what you going to do, unless of course your unsure of the reg's and you've decided to check later rather than sooner

It's a long rambling boring story but is to do with finding out that 50 Amp Type C mcbs are unavailable. Hindsight's a fine thing.
I do know the regs (usually) but wondered if 314.1 (i) applied to commercial premises, and it does.

I tried Wylex and Hager . A Google search didn't offer anything except 3 phase.
Beg your pardon . I see that Contactum do! Ah well.

As this is a commercial installation, the EAWR apply.
As such employees should be knowledgeable, experienced or supervised, and as such the installation should be under the control of a skilled or instructed person.
Unless it is intended to allow customers unsupervised access to socket-outlets, there are socket-outlets that will be used for mobile equipment outdoors or there is a special location, there is no requirement to provide RCD protection

OH ****, seems beauticians are skilled for electrical installations , have'nt even got to do 17 day wonder course -- we are all doomed

EAWR Regulation 16.
"No person shall be engaged in any work activity where technical knowledge or experience is necessary to prevent danger or, where appropriate, injury, unless he possesses such knowledge or experience, or is under such degree of supervision as may be appropriate having regard to the nature of the work."

If they do not have the technical knowledge, experience or are adequately supervised, so as not to prevent danger. They would be breaking the law.
This is why BS7671 has exceptions to the requirement for RCD protection in such places.
