Out of interest, what type of board would you recommend to install the consumer Unit on?

I was thinking about Fire Board, is this best practice or is something else recommended or as per regulations?

The other option I have is Phenolic ply.

I have access to this free, as family uses this stuff and always have loads of off cuts

might not be in regs, but what about EAWR? is there anything in there? I know the DNO's like it to be a certain type of wood as amp david has stated, there must be a reason for this

The DNO has their equipment on a small board but it is not big enough, so I want to put a board next to it to mount my CU and Main Switch on, then both boards will be built into a cupboard

I have just been looking and seen a few posts saying paxolin has been banned

Would the Phenolic ply be suitable for a backboard for a CU?

Also is there any requirements for making a cupboard around the CU? Is there anything I cant use or anything I have to bear in mind?

As an alternative to paxolin try this Tufnol Kite Sheet - Direct Plastics Online

Used this for many years

Edit Had a look for paxolin on the web, if paxolin is banned why can you still buy it

Its a brick wall, nothing at all that I am aware of - just thought it would have been easier and normal practice to mount to a board.

Either way I dont mind to be honest. As I have to cut the DNO Board anyway as its in the way and only a small area is being used of it, but its way to small for the CU as well, otherwise I would have stuck it on there.

The CU and DNO has not been changed since 1960s, so I dont really know what board they have up at the moment or anything.

However it's done, you need to have a guarantee of no sharp/unprotected edges that can damage the insulation. Personally, I'm not that impressed...
