Consumer unit mounting

I have read that the consumer unit needs to be mounted on non combustible material,
what do you do in the case of a consumer unit replacement when the old one is fitted onto wood, chipboard, mdf etc that also has all the dno equipment fitted, on an older property, the original cu or fuses etc would have been fitted onto plain old wood

where did you read this? I have heard of it but only from home owners for some reason. I would say that 99% of CU's in the UK are mounted on some sort of wooden board.....

Near enough every single board I have ever seen has been mounted on wood or chipboard....

Utter tripe, fit it on the existing wooden surface, as long as it is secure, flat and not moldy/rotten!

It's too late to get the book out, but i'm sure that these roumors come fram way back when there were CU's out there, and still are, with open backed enclosures - wylex's etc, you still see loads of them.

Something about any switchgear likely to produce arcing etc.

Modern boards are not 'likely' to produce arcing unless under fault conditions.

As i say, too late to go digging so i'll leave my hat on.......
