Just wondered what most people would do when upgrading a consumer unit which has a 30amp old rewireable fuse for the cooker using a 6mm cable. Would you replace like for like or would you put the cooker on a 40amp mcb bearing in mind the cookers been working off the 30amp fine for the past number of years?

Why on earth do you not know the answer to this?

This is a VERY basic question, are you competent to be changing a CU?

There are lots of things to go wrong, I would suggest you employ an electrician.

Oh right because its lightly to go flash bang if i used a 40amp is it bob? I think not. I was just thinking they might install a more powerful oven/hob at some point and if they did a 40amp would suffice the load. x

No, but if you put your fingers, hand, ear, cpc in the wrong place then yes it will go flashbang and it will hurt.............

6mm can take a 40 mcb if installed correctly, this is a very basic question, I am sorry if I insulted you but do be careful!

If they did do that then it would be their resposibility to upgrade the cable supplying the cooker as you can't just uprate a protective device if the cable isn't capable of caryying the additional current.
