Consumer unit

Hi,

When you add to a building ie: an extension which is going to be tapped into existing ring do you need to replace consumer unit?

Consumer unit is RCD protected but older ie 5 15 30 amp type 2 m3

Not always.

It will also depend if other regs are met as to if you replace the CU and be done with it.

IE Main earthing/bonding, trip times etc.

Exactly if cu already meets current bs7671 figures then why replace? - Just so you know builder wont have it says must be replaced?

If the builder is insisting that ot needs replacing then why not?

To be honest, as long as YOUR work complies (and bonding etc) there is no reason.

Swap it out and make some money from him.

As he will be paying you I would do it as he may with hold payment to you as work has not been completed as requested

what ever way you go get instruction in writing
