Hi,

Is there such thing as a single phase contactor for a 1 phase motor?
I have a control panel that tells the motor when to pump and when to stop pumping
by means of an interposing relay and a contactor. Can I use a three phase contactor and
just switch the live and neutral?

Cheers!

if you mean a 3-pole contactor/overload-the poles are wired in series (with the line/phase)and a solid neutral

if it's just contactor switching i guess you can use 2 AC3 rated poles for L and N

Thanks for that,

I'm not quite sure what you mean though? Do I have the live going in L1 out T1, then in L2 out T2 and in L3 out T3 of the contactor and thermal overload?

Cheers.

ya -wire the poles in series with the phase/line for a contactor/overload combination

If your using an overload then you will need to wire the 2 first poles of the contactor in series, then the neutral on the third pole otherwise you will get nuisance tripping due to phase imbalance
