I understand the meaning of AC 1,3 etc is in regards to different type of loads. But is that per pole or for the contactor as a whole.

For example I have a contactor AC-1 rating of 20A. Would that mean it is capable of 20A per pole or 20A total load. I've always just changed like for like but have been puzzled and none of my colleagues are sure either.

Thanks

Mike

the amp rating will be per pole - they're usually marked ac1 and other ratings will be lower than the ac1
