I've done some work in a house, tried to test it, but the rcd trips out when i do an earth loop and when i do rcd tests (at half, 1 and 5 times)

I bypassed the rcd to get a result for my earth loop test, but the rcd test is still a problem.I ordered a new rcd, fitted it, and I'm still getting the same problem

the rcd is a contactum 80A 30 mA about a year old. just before contactum apparently changed their CU design

has anyone else had trouble with contactum rcds?

I think that after changing the RCD I would probably try and borrow a mates RCD tester to rule the test equipment out. I say this because going back many moons I had a fluke RCD tester that did not get on with Hager RCD's.

Just a thought ;)

It could also be a crossed Neutral in the consumer unit either from the house circuits or the Neutral links inside the the consumer unit itself. Does the RCD hold when a load is applied?

Stating the obvious and not patronising, but can you confirm the loop tester has a no trip function, that was used and is working
A standard loop tester such as mine will not give a reading when testing via the rcd before out it goes as normal
Was half test done with all loads disconnected and carried out at source
Seems to be unlikely to be two rcds that are at fault but still possible I suppose

i think i'm going to borrow a mates tester and try again. i was testing a different job on friday, and the rcd test kept tripping out at half times aswell. although i could get my loop readings ok.

my tester does have the 'no trip' function. its a megger 1552, about 6 months old

Cant remember exactly off the top of my head now, but on the rcd were a couple of ring mains, cooker, normal domestic stuff really
