Been having trouble with a Fire Alarm installation company who are refusing to pay, said my work was rubbish!! This was after 10 weeks on site and 2 days before payment was due (they are trying it on) They are telling me that they are gonna charge me to put right whats wrong, but wont tell me whats wrong! Just found this in construction law, may help anyone else in same position.

You are entitled to 14 days notice to rectify a mistake before contra charges can be applied.

If you make a legitimate mistake onsite, by rights, you are entitled to rectify the problem yourself. You are entitled to be informed of any problems and you are also entitled to rectify them BEFORE you are contra charged.

Hi, Nah not yet, but i am putting it on them now! Not being big headed, but in 20 years as a spark I can honestly say that I have only had 2 maybe 3 complaints. Never serious either. These idiots obviously dont have a clue or they are that stupid that they think I might just go away!

Something that may be of use when your dealing business to business, always send an order confirmation by post or fax, stating the work and the price. Then on the bottom of this just have printed "All sales are supplied subject to our standard terms and conditions" and keep a set on file at home or in the office.

What this does is ensure that any work you do is carried out against your terms not the purchasers terms. comes in very handy :D .

If you need T&C examples I have some just ask, you will need to doctor them a bit.

Plus they still can't offset an invoice this is against tax regulation, they would have to ask you for a part credit.
