contractor off a spur?

Can you run a contactor via a FCU spur from the circuit its switching?
Its for a lighting circuit that requires very ling switch wires.

I don't see why not, as this is the normal way control wiring is done.

reading the typo in the title, there is a subtle difference between a contactor and a contractor. one sits there doing nothing until an electric current jolts it into life, and the other one is used in control circuits.

sounds ok but can't see how its going to shorten your sw/wires is the spur switching the coil?

It was for volt drop. I didn't get an email so didn't know anyone had replied!

Strangely when I looked in the index of CEF for a contactor last night it was spelt 'contractors'!

Obviously the cef employee with the shared brain cell was on holiday at the time.

Relays/contactors are used extensivly in hotels for switching heater circuits on and are generally wired in 1mm stranded for the very reason of VD sometimes in 12/24 V, some run hundreds of metres
