Hey all, I have a decent client wanting to change all fittings and accessories in a large house to something like Schneider Ultimate screwless flat plate in polished chrome and has existing halogen white open ring old style downlights, in your opinions would you go mains GU10 into new open downlight ring or just go for integrated such as H2 Pro or Luxna etc.. they want polished chrome throughout too. Going to cost plenty on gear !

Personally I would go for GU10 lamps, at least then if a lamp fails.....you just replace the lamp.

If the intergrated led fitting fails, it has to be disconnected and returned (if under guarantee) then if it can't be replaced and say is no longer made or model has changed, you struggle to find one to match the others.

I install mainly integrated luminaires, have had a few fail, but mostly no problems.

In my own house I have both, and fingers crossed no lamp failures in many years, so reliability in both formats is pretty good compared to previous lamps. If you do get failures, its down to the manufacturer to match up with their extended warranties. If it outside the warranty, which with Halers is seven years, its very likely the customer is going to replace with the next current technology, the same as some people seem to do with GU10 lamps, like the Hue etc. So I don't see that as an argument.

I install integrated as standard now with a 3 year manufacturer warranty and all is going peachy nearly 3 years after starting with them.
As said you can get longer manufacturer warranties too.

I only install GU10 if budget is the main consideration. Can make a huge difference on a job with many units.

I've had a few halers H2 pros fail on me within a year.... and just recently had to change out an entire housefull of JCC FGLED6 fittings which I wired just over a year ago! I was one of the many victims of they're faulty batches!

I also tried the megaman versofit for a time but had quite a high failure rate on those and it took a month for megaman to get replacement LED modules out to me!

I now either use JCC twist and lock cans with a decent GU10 LED bulb, or if I want a sleeker look JCC Hybrid 7/9 so at least if the LED module dies it can be replaced and not have to change the entire fitting.... but yes as said the "warranty" is actually worthless unless registered when fitted and proof of purchase is kept so that means either we do it... and sort it down the line if one dies... or you give your customer your original invoice from the wholesaler?!

The most reliable integrated fittings I've used are the Ansell Orbio 360 units, reckon I've fitted well over 250 in the last 3 years and not a single reported failure yet.

I've used those before and quite liked them. 7 year warranty too. It's just that I'd have to go right out of my way and spend an extra 20% to get them round here. I'd always recommend them though.

I was in a wholesalers in Kettering the other day and a electrician was in there with a few JCC LED downlights that were faulty does anyone know what was the problem with them and have they sorted it out now before I go and buy some ?.

There was a batch of FGLED 6's (manufactured circa late 2014) that were ----, my wholesalers are fed up replacing them, so no longer stock them. The original Hybred7's had issues when connected with bathroom extractor fans, apparently now rectified.
