Hello, i've bought some wall lights which are mains powered (from B&Q) and i'm planning to build a housing and convert them to wall mounted bedside lamps which you plug in.

I've bought 3 core flex 16A rating and also 16A rocker switches which have 3 prongs so I can attach ground.

I went with the rocker switch so that I can mount the switch to the housing as oppose to using a typical in-line lamp switch.

Does anyone see any problems with me doing this?

Also currently the rocker switch i've used one prong for Brown wire from mains (plug), prong 2 brown wire from lamp and prong 3 for ground. I've then connected the 2 blue wire together. The light switches on and works fine but wanted to confirm i'm not overloading etc.

your cpc ( earth) should not be connected to the switch.

These "rocker switches" you have purchased, do the not have screwed terminals, I ask because use the term prongs, this puts me in mind of an ELV application type switch, what are the voltage ranges on these switches?
In no way are we having a dig at you, but for safety's sake you would be better off employing an Electrician. DIY is OK for small jobs, but your project looks a bit to complicated for someone with not electrical experience. Connecting the earth to the prong 3 sends shivers up my spine, take heed of the advice Tel has given and mine as well.

Thanks for the feedback. Prong 3 is labelled as ground so I assumed this would be translated as earth?

maybe I should go down the route of 3 core inline switch.

Can you post a picture and a sketch of your proposal to enable us to give a more abjective view.

OP please don't feel embarrassed to respond, if you have no electrical experience that's nothing to be worried about please try and post pictures and a diagram of sorts, I for one would like to help, as would the others I'm sure.
