my friend recently got a second hand domestic electric cooker, and it keeps tripping the 32amp breaker. no label on the back showing power of cooker. the circuit is wired in 6mm to an isolator then down to a single socket behind the cooker- still in 6mm. the hob works but as soon as the oven is switched on the breaker trips. but not the 13 amp fuse in the plug connected to the cooker. is it worth trying a replacement 40 or 45 amp breaker, or would this just cause the 13 amp fuse to blow. the previous owner was a friend of my friend and said the cooker was working correctly when disconnected. if i try a 40 or 45 amp breaker and it keeps tripping, then the cooker is faulty?

Sounds to me like the oven is damaged. Maybe the element in oven.

Why not ask the previous owner what size breaker it was on? Can't imagine that being the problem though.

Also I don't have my on-site guide with me but I'm not sure if a 6mm cable can go on a 45a breaker. One of the more experienced guys would be able to tell you if it can

i'm going to check the element. i hadn't seen a 32 amp breaker on a cooker circuit before or a cooker that plugged directly into a 13 amp socket, which is why i was puzzled. that and the fact i was told it was working

Have you looked up the model of the cooker on the internet so that you can find its power rating?
This information should be known to you before you connect it so you can be confident once you have repaired it the cable is going to be protected.
