Cooker / Hob connection

Just had a new kitchen installed. The new cooker and hob didn't come with any cable. The hob is rated at 6Kw and the single oven at 2.2Kw. The circuit is a 32A mcb, 6mm t&e to a ccu and then 6mm down to the connection unit.

MI says to use H05V2V2-F T min 90C. Is this Butyl? I was going to buy 6mm 3 core and wire both the hob and cooker into the connection unit. Are they normally big enough to take two lots of 6mm? Is there a better way to do it?

You'd be better off with a dual appliance outlet plate, they are designed with one set of terminals for the supply and two sets for the appliances.

Thanks for the replies. I just stumbled across the dual appliance outlet in another thread. I didn't know they existed. Also it looks like 4.0mm butyl will be sufficent. Thanks again.

They do a specific back box (surface mount) for the plate FYI.

You might even find 2.5mm would suffice.

You would need to calculate the load current of your 6kw hob. 2.5 would be more than enough for the 2.2kw oven.

Without diversity 2.5mm was just too small from memory. I don't think price wise there was too much difference between 2.5 and 4.0 mm, especially as I'm only buying 4 metres.

4mm heat resistant flex can be physically quite large when trying to connect to an appliance, especially a hob. Why not apply diversity?

Good point I didn't think about the overall diameter. I think 2.5mm could take 25A whereas 6kw comes out at 26A, so there wasn't much in it anyway.
How would you terminate it onto the hob and oven? I thought about using insulated ring crimps but it doesn't look like the terminals are designed for them. I didn't want to just wrap the cores around the terminals.

What make of hob is it? Majority I've connected have kind of screw cage terminal. Think you'll find little room for any insulated lugs, but you should use a suitable bootlace lug.
