Cooker hood problem

Hi all, and a happy Easter to you. I'm just having a quick look at someone's cooker hood, it used to work but the decorator was in yesterday and drilled the hole for the extractor and now it doesn't. Basically you can have the lights on the hood and they work fine, or you can have the extractor on the two lower settings and it'll be ok, but you can't have the lights on as well as the extractor. If you try the fan motor seems to try and start and the lights flicker.
its a Luxair extractor if that helps.
All connections at the switch seems fine and the voltage from the spur to the hood is constant.
any ideas on what it could be?

I have never come across that before..Is the voltage constant as you try and turn both on...Maybe a fault in the cooker hood itself. Any sign of damage?

quite common for the pcb tracks to blow in the controller. but as there's been vibration due to drilling, could be a dry joint or loose connection.. some are easy to repair. some ain't.

So, a 4" hole was drilled next to the hood and now it doesn't work..... Sounds like a problem with the electronics, as tel said. You will need to get your multimeter out and do a spot of fault-finding.

I've had a quick look at the pcb and a quick test of it and it seems fine, it's as if the motor Is drawing too much power or something. All the connections I could get to seem fine, will have a better look Tommorow when I have all my tools, but thanks for the help guys.

Are you sure he has'nt damaged the cable to the hood ? You may get a "constant" voltage but when the full load is on a damage cable may be arching, i would do a IR test on the circuit.

Just IR'd the cables in question, all fine, and taken the multimeter to the PCB and it's still 'billy skittled'. I'll give the customer service line a ring Tommorow, as motors are not my strong point.
