hi there.

a family member has asked me to install a new cooker in thier kitchen.

i have the level 2 C&G 2330 qualification and stuidied the level 3 C&G qualification last year but did not finish it ( i got offered a job and took it, 3 months before the end of the course).

I am great with all the cable calculations and installing circuits and have no doubts at all about installing it.

would it be okay for me to install the cooker? or should i just advise them to seek a qualified electrician / part P registered? is there certain documentations that need to be signed by someone qualified? im very confident i can do a safe and working installation following all regs and legislation but i want to make sure for thier safety that i am doing the right thing.

thanks.

you may well be competent to install it, but it will need a EIC and notifying to your LABC. this needs to be done by a spark registered under part p. you could get a registered spark on the job and offer to assist.

thanks for the advice guys.

ive researched abit and found out that the new cooker is very much like the old one. it is electric with a conventional and fan over, 4 small ring hobs on the top. the rating is the same as the old one (and there is already 10mm cable installed) so literally all i will be needing to do is wire it up.

i would be able to do this myself and ask a qualified person to just check it for me?

also i am located in trimdon, county durham. ts21

if that's all you have to do, then you can get on with it. no certification or notification is required on what is a " like for like " replacement. if you have the necessary test equipment , you can take readings for the circuit if you want, but there is no need from the regs. to do this.

If you want to look a bit flash then you could always do a minor works certificate!!
